You must make sure that the helmet you are selecting has been adequately approved by the Department of Transportation. You can do this by checking inside the helmet for a permanently affixed DOT safety label. Fake stickers might be applied to the inner lining of the helmet, but genuine labels will also be permanently attached to the inside of the helmet.
